Unique Tradition to See Total Solar Eclipse, People Turn Glass into ‘Langas’
There is even an unique tradition that people did to see the eclipse.

SRIPOKU.COM, PALEMBANG -- There are lots of things that people will do in order to see the Total Solar Eclipse (March 9th, 2016). There is even an unique tradition that people did to see the eclipse.
Just like what the residents of Kampung Arab Al Munawar, Kelurahan 13 Ulu, Kecamatan Seberang Ulu 1, Palembang did, in order to see the eclipse.
Usually, residents that wanted to see the eclipse use the help of a piece of glass that was ‘blackened’ using the black smoke coming from a burned tire or burned sandals.
“Firstly, we will ‘langas’ (burn) a piece of glass in order to see it indirectly. The result is the same, we can also see the eclipse, I also did it when I was a kid,” said Muhammad Akadir (46), chief of RT. 24, Kampung Arab Al Munawar.
Akadir also said that it’s not too hard to make a piece of glass as a tool to see the eclipse. To see the eclipse perfectly, the glass would be burned first using the smoke from a burned tire or sandals.
Akadir added, “Then, the blackened glass can be pointed to eclipse. As long as I live, I have seen this phenomena twice. First is when I was in 5th grade.”
