Muba Will Give Full Supports for Turf’s Restoration Program

SRIPOKU.COM -- The Government of Kabupaten Musi Banyuasin (Pemkab Muba) will give its full support for the turf’s restoration program launched by the central government.

The policy was based on the presidential decree (Peraturan Presiden/Perpres), Number 1, Year 2016, about Turf’s Restoration Organization (Badan Restorasi Gambut/BRG).

Tasks Executor of Musi Banyuasin’s Regent (Pelaksana Tugas/Plt Bupati Musi Banyuasin), Beni Herdi will take immediate steps made by the central government in a process to handle the turf program, including the establishment of BRG.

Its purpose is none other than to ensure that Muba will achieve ‘Zero Smoke’ because of land and forest fires (Kebakaran Hutan dan Lahan/Karhutla).

Beni affirmed this after finishing the Coordination Meetings (Rapat Kordinasi/Rakor) of Turf’s Restoration and the Prevention Efforts of Land and Forest Fires in the Auditorium of Gedung Manggala Wanabakti, Jakarta, Monday, 14 March.

“We hope that the existence of BRG will help us to prevent the fire and restoring back the functions of turf as it should be, in Musi Banyuasin,” Beni said.

Furthermore, Beni added that Pemkab Muba will soon begin its coordination with the related party, to make sure that the land and forest fire will not happen again this year.

Beni added “I have to make sure that there will be no permit and land clearing on the turf. If there is any, that it means violation. I will give action for that.”

The policy was taken in order to accelerate the restoration program of turf’s hydrological function as the result from the land and forest fire. It will be implemented specially, systematically, correspondingly, integratedly and comprehensively.

The central government sees the need to form an organization that will carry out this program, based on President Joko Widodo’s consideration in January, 6th, 2016.

The Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Law (Menteri Koordinator Politik, Hukum, dan Keamanan/Menkopolhukam), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan reminded the negative impact of land and forest fire.

“Children and adults will become the victim of Acute Respiratory Infections (Infeksi Saluran Pernafasan Akut/ISPA. Not less than 2.6 million hectares of land will burned down and it will cost Rp. 761 Billion, that will affect the economic system,” Luhut said.

Luhut added that his staff will go directly to the field. Meanwhile, they will also keep monitoring the local government, whether they have done the policy or not.

Luhut added “If they managed to protect their land from the fire, the government will increase the nominal amount for village funds. And vice-versa, the government will decrease the nominal if it fails.” (Sadam, Sripoku.com)
